Poetry Thursday

When I was about thirteen I received as a school prize a book called "Collins Albatross Book of Verse". This was one of the poems in it and, even though it is a bit Victorian sentimental, it has stuck with me ever since.

All Beauteous Things

I love all beauteous things
I seek and adore them
God hath no better praise
And man in his hasty days
Is honoured for them.

I too will something make
And joy in the making;
Although tomorrow it seem
Like empty words of a dream
Remembered on waking.

- Robert Bridges (1844 - 1930)
